A QUESTION?

i came across this quote today and decided i liked it so much i would format it and maybe eventually print it out and frame it on my wall. as i was working on it, i thought "this is a nice concept, but how do you do this?" so the question is out, 

"how do you instill roots and give wings to your own children?" 
or "how did your parents accomplish this?"
